Starting the ESG Journey

In partnership with a regional logistics and transportation company, our team of experts quantified their CO2e emissions across their portfolio and developed a business development toolkit to assess the emissions impact of all future opportunities – initiating the ESG journey and informing broader efforts to develop ESG aspirations and strategy. 

A critical element and often the first step of the ESG journey is establishing a baseline, or current state, across all the environmental, social, and governance elements. Our team partnered with our client to quantify their current carbon emissions and developed a methodology to sustain that journey for future business development opportunities. 

Our methodical yet adaptive approach underpinned our ability to quickly and efficiently deliver results:

• Align: Through quick and diligent effort, our team quickly established a macro understanding of our client's business, aligned on key ESG aspirations and short term objectives to quantify and communicate their portfolio's carbon emissions.
• Data Interrogation: As with any modern company, data is abundant but not always easy to understand or use. Our team interrogated a breadth of available data to understand what is available, data quality and trustworthiness, and how it is all related.
• Quantification: While the absence of clear regulations or industry standards can create ambiguity, we partner with our clients to make significant forward progress with an agile mindset – then continuously measuring and improving. Our team quantified the CO2e emissions based on available data across our client's portfolio in alignment with the EPA's best-available-monitoring-method (BAMM). 
• Business Development: Our team developed a CO2e emissions business development toolkit allowing our client to continue to evaluate each new project beyond traditional financial metrics– supporting the agile mindset to continually measure and improve. 
• Aspire & Strategize: Understanding the CO2e emissions of the current portfolio and future projects is only the first step in achieving excellence in ESG. Our team further supported our client through identification of key processes and technologies that unlock higher fidelity CO2e emissions and further reduces emissions. 

Our team quickly and efficiently supported our client in achieving their business transformation aspirations and strategy by quantifying CO2e emissions, establishing a process to evaluate new projects' CO2e emissions, and identifying opportunities to continue the journey.
